Hero of the Month May 2012

MOMMY CAT

In November 2012, Mommy Cat came to SPCA Randburg. She was pregnant at the time, and had her babies in her kennel. All her babies were fortunate enough to be adopted once they had been weaned, but Mommy Cat stayed behind, hoping to find a family of her own to love her and look after her.

Mommy Cat was estimated to be between 18 months and 2 years old, and she had a sweet nature. She was very affectionate, loved catnip and proved to be a real character as time went by. Sadly she waited and waited, but couldn't find somebody to adopt her.

At the beginning of May 2012, something wonderful happened: Somebody looking for a cat to add to their family came to SPCA Randburg, saw Mommy Cat and decided that she was the perfect pet! She has now been adopted, and has gone to her new home where she will receive a new name and lots of love and care from her new family.

For more information on adoption please contact,
SPCA Randburg on 011-462-1610.

Craft Market March 2012

SPCA Randburg is most grateful to have been named the beneficiary of the Olivedale Craft Market!  A big thank you goes to Sam and Faith Warren for all their efforts and hard work to make this event happen.

The first market of the year was held on Saturday 3 March, with a variety of interesting stalls selling their goods.

Exciting news is that, in future, the craft markets will be held at the SPCA Randburg premises!  Watch this space for details.

HERO OF THE MONTH APRIL 2012

LUCKY DOG MAKES A RECOVERY

A few weeks ago, a cross Min Pin / Skippertjie was brought in to SPCA Randburg as a stray animal. He was injured, and the person who found him said it looked as though he had been bitten by a much larger dog. SPCA Randburg staff took the little guy to the vet, who confirmed that he had definitely been bitten by another dog, and that he had been shaken about.

After a brief stay at the vet, the dog returned to SPCA Randburg where he was given a warm kennel and regular meals, along with his medication. Fortunately he has made a good recovery and is going to his new home soon.

With the cold weather we have been having, a jersey was put on the dog (as is done with all our small dogs), to keep out the chills, and he snuggled into him comfy warm blanket in his kennel. All the animals in our care sleep on carpets and cosy blankets, and we have a constant need for these items. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

SPCA Randburg would like to appeal to members of the community to please donate blankets, dog jerseys, towels, cushions and carpet squares to us so that we may continue to ensure that all our animals stay warm this winter. These items need not be new; as long as they are still usable, they will be gratefully accepted! Donations may be dropped off at our premises located at 229 Northumberland Avenue (between Ferreira's and Northgate), North Riding. SPCA RANDBURG HERO OF THE MONTH

March 2012

SWEET-NATURED GEMMA

Gemma is a female Chow cross who has a sweet, gentle nature but recently found herself without a home.  Her owners were evicted from their property, and had nowhere to go.  They packed up all their belongings, and decided to take a train to another area to look for a new place to stay.  At the station, Gemma's owners were told that dogs are not allowed on board.  As a result of this, Gemma was brought to SPCA Randburg so that a new home could be found for her.

While Gemma waits to be adopted, she will receive all the love and care she needs from the dedicated team of staff at SPCA Randburg.  Should you be considering adopting a pet, please look no further than your nearest SPCA.

If you suspect animal cruelty, please report it immediately.  You can call SPCA Randburg on 011-462-1610 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
